Do you have a neighbor broadcasting an "xfinitywifi" signal, a friend or family member with xfinity internet, and some old wifi routers laying around the house? Well great news - you just got free internet.

Follow these instructions and you will soon have home wifi that you and your friends can connect to using the xfinitywifi AP as your internet backbone. You can rebroadcast this signal in your own home with your own AP name and wifi password - totally transparent to your guests.

What you need:

  • A router running ddwrt firmware.

  • Another router. Needs no special firmware.

  • A username and password that allows you to connect to xfinitywifi access point. Only use an account that you are allowed to use and don't abuse xfinity's wifi access point program.

  • Some patience.

Authenticate your router

You'll notice that when you connect your computer to xfinitywifi you will get a portal page asking you to log in with your xfinity credentials. This is great for authenticating your computer, but if we want to connect your ddwrt router as a client to xfinitywifi, you will need to authenticate it somehow as well.

Authentication is managed by mac address. When you log in with your computer, xfinitywifi stores and recognizes your mac address as authenticated and doesn't ask you to log in again. Therefore, step 1 is to log into xfinitywifi using your computer but using your router's mac address.

I am using OS X and followed this tutorial to change my computers wifi address to match the one for my router. Make this change when you are disconnected from xfinitywifi and make sure your router is off while you do this. Windows users, use google.

Once you have mimicked your router's wifi, log on and authenticate to xfinitywifi. Now when you connect your router, it will be recognized as a client.

Change your computer's mac address back to what it was. On my system, rebooting reset it automatically.

Configure DDWRT Router

Start with a fresh DDWRT install. If you've done previous configuration, do a factory reset.

  1. Under Wireless >> Basic Settings set the Wireless mode to Repeater. Set the Wireless Network name to "xfinitywifi". Set network configuration to Bridged and save.

  2. Under Secuity >> Firewall uncheck all boxes. You can leave SPI firewall enabled.

  3. Under Setup >> Basic Setup

  • Set local IP address to XXX.XXX.69.1 where XXX.XXX matches the IP address of the xfinitywifi router. In my case, it was 172.20.x.x. You can make the subnet whatever you want.

  • Set the gateway to the IP address of the xfinity wifi router.

  • Set static DNS 1 to the IP of the xfinitywifi router.

  1. Hit save and apply. The router will reboot. This should be number 4 but reddit formatting.

Configure AP

Configure your other router as normal. Use whatever network name and password you want. Connect a network cable between one of the client ports on your DDWRT router to the WAN port on the router you will be using as an access point. I configured mine as a "router" instead of an "AP." Your guests will see your wifi and have no idea that you are piggybacking on xfinitywifi. It's totally transparent.

That's pretty much it. I've done this a couple times and it has worked great. I'm writing up this tutorial mostly so I can refer to it in the future but figured you all might benefit as well. I just moved to a new place and have an xfinity account at my old address and am just using this method while I wait for a legit internet install. You can do this method using just one DDWRT router but it's a bit easier with two and I have a pile of routers anyway.

What is WiFi Calling?
WiFi Calling is a feature that allows you to send and receive both calls and texts over a WiFi network instead of the cell network. The main benefit is that you can stay connected with calls/texts when cell service is not available but WiFi is, such as in the basement of a large building, or in a rural area.
 
WiFi Calling doesn't give you the ability to make free calls and texts. (Read further along to learn how to do this with Google Voice.) You are still charged the normal rate for calls and texts by Tracfone.
 
WiFi Calling works on both Android and iOS devices, although not all phones support it, and not all cell phone service providers support it.
 
Tracfone does support WiFi Calling, but only on some smartphones, and certain BYOP devices. It appears to depend on the phone and your location, as not all the networks Tracfone users support WiFi Calling.
 
To see if your phone is capable, take a look at the requirements for WiFi Calling:
 
Basic Requirements for WiFi Calling
There are a few basic requirements for WiFi Calling
SIM Card/Network that Supports it
Cell Phone with WiFi Calling Capability
e911 Registration
The first two requirements can be a little tricky to figure out. The easiest way is to just try and enable WiFi Calling to see if it will work. Tracfone uses several other cell phone networks, and a variety of different smartphones, so not all are capable or compatible.
 
You can visit https://e911-reg.tracfone.com/wps/portal/home/ and enter your phone number and last four digits of your SIM card number (located on your SIM card for BYOP devices).
 
Testing with an unlocked Moto G4 Plus with GSM SIM was unsuccessful.
 
How to Setup WiFi Calling
If you're phone is eligible, then follow these steps for WiFi Calling:
Register an E911 address, which requires you to submit your home address, by visiting http://e911-reg.tracfone.com 
Enable WiFi Calling on your device (if it isn't already enabled) by going to Settings > More > WiFi Calling. Here is a Tracfone tutorial for enabling WiFi Calling.
If you run into problems, try double checking each step and if that doesn't work, contact Tracfone directly or leave a comment below.
If you're phone is capable of WiFi Calling, it should be a fairly quick and easy process to enable it.
 
But what if you can't enable WiFi Calling, or you want to make free calls using WiFi? Well we've got the answer!
 
How to Make Free Calls using WiFi
If you were expecting WiFi Calling to make it possible to make free calls and texts, you are probably disappointed. But don't worry, there are other options for free calling and texting, and we will share one of the more popular methods here.
 
Using Google Hangouts/Hangouts Dialer and a free phone number from Google Voice, you can make free calls from WiFi. Anyone you call will see your Google Voice number, not your Tracfone number, but you can port your Tracfone number to Google Voice if you prefer that.
 
Steps to Make Free Calls with Google Hangouts Dialer:
Visit Google Voice and sign up for a free phone number. You are able to choose a phone number from a large variety available from many different area codes.
Download Google Hangouts Dialer app on your smartphone
Connect your Account and Verify your Phone Number
Make a Test Call using the Google Hangouts Dialer app to check that everything is working.
Now you should be able to send and receive phone calls to your Tracfone smartphone using your Google Voice phone number and the Dialer app.

里说的就是它自己品牌的手机计划，除了官网以外，在walmart和bestbuy都有的卖。

它的手机计划可以BYOD，自带机入网。可以支持att, tmo, vzw的机子。如果你买的是
bestbuy/walmart的activation kit，那个里面有四张卡，其中两张蓝色是GSM。一张
regular/micro，一张nano。另外两张红色是VZW，也是regular/micro一张，nano一张
。这四张卡的ICCID都是不同的，可以激活四个手机。如果你是官网上入网，它会根据
你的MEID来决定是哪个网络，哪种大小，只会给你寄一张卡过来。

我原来是一直使用vzw，后来为了用smartphone转到pageplus，现在为了用LTE手机转到
tracfone。tracfone适合每月10到20左右，不想折腾的以前的vzw用户。

tracfone v家优势是主打vzw的网络，而且可以漫游到其他的网络上。它家的A/T没用过
，不做评价。

好像tracfone只有PAYG的选项，账户里有三个bucket，分钟／短信／流量。这三个
bucket是单独的，比如100/100/100，用了10分钟语音就会变成90/100/100，而且只要
账号是激活的，这些balance会一直保持下去。

充值是买卡的，绝对不建议在官网买，有税和费。卡上有两部分数字，一个是分钟数，
一个是服务期。比如400/90就是400分钟，延长服务期90天。

tracfone有两种卡，一种是通用的，一种是smartphone专用的。通用的卡用在
smartphone上可以lifetime triple，就是400的卡，冲了以后变成1200 min/1200 text
/1200 MB。服务期不变。smartphone专用的没有triple。我看下来，smartphone专用的
就是填补了通用卡的价格空档。比如通用卡是$20/$30/$40，smartphone only是$15/$
25/$35，单价少一些，服务期短一些。smartphone only还有数据包，1000MB/$10，这
种包不延长服务期，只加流量。

比较便宜的是它的一年卡，400/365 $100，用在smartphone上就是1200/1200/1200。和
pageplus $12相比，可以用LTE的手机了，如果电话短信每月不到100+100的话，比
pageplus便宜。它的smartphone专用一年卡是1500/1500/1500 $125。这就不如400/365
$100 + 一张数据卡(1000/$10)了。

我接触到的它家客服分三层，第一层是电话和online chat的，一般的事务可以搞定。
第二层是supervisor，第一层搞不定的，他们来搞。第三层是tech support level 2，
这种比较牛，我的问题是她最后搞定的。这个以后再单开一帖说。总结就是能online 
chat搞定就不要打电话。

tracfone不提供detailed call history，可以在网站上注册来查用量。激活手机，绑
定SIM卡，然后可以转号。转号以后重启手机就可以用了，没有设置一说（V家的LTE手
机）

tracfone的手机和SIM卡式绑定的。换手机需要通知他们，否则会被停机销号的，我就
是这个被他们搞了一道。

第一层的客服会告诉你，每次换东西都要换新的SIM卡。第二层的客服说可以来回换，
只要新的没有在使用就可以。第三层的客服说那些都没事，随便改。反正他们的客服比
较混乱。

不管A/T/V，计划和价钱都是一样的。
"冲了以后变成1200 min/1200 text/1200 MB。服务期不变。"应该是“服务期”不
triple

「.」：
因为Gmail会自动忽略「.」，
所以用这种方法，信箱就可以有多重分身，
如本来的信箱是test@gmail.com，
变身后就可以成为t.est@gmail.com, te.st@gmail.com, t.es.t@gmail.com等。
「+」：
使用「+」可以帮Gmail加上别名，同样地可以达到分身的效果。
以刚刚的例子而信，在原本的帐号最右边加上「+123」的话，
就可以有「123」这个别名，信箱便成为test+123@gmail.com，
且每个帐号都可以拥有无限个别名，而寄到别名信箱的信通通都会寄到原来的信箱，
但因为收件的email位址不同，所以我们可以设定不同的邮件筛选器，
只要设定好筛选条件后，就可以很轻松的管理不同目的或类别的帐号啰！
变更帐号大小写：
test@gmail.com = Test@gmail.com = TeSt@gmail.com 
更改网域名称：
@googlemail.com是gmail在德国与英国所注册的网域名称，
不过我们还是可以直接拿来使用，于是乎：
test@gmail.com = test@googlemail.com
综合以上两四种扩充Gmail的方法，我们还可以把他们结合起来使用，
如果t.est++123@gmail.com, te.St+testt@gmail.com, t.eS.T@googlemail.com ，
看起来非常地不一样，但都一样可以从test@gmail.com收到喔！ 透过这种方式，我们可以很容易地知道是哪个地方把我们的email帐号卖了， 例如使用yahoo拍卖时我都用test+ybuy@gmail.com这个帐号， 那之后如果这个帐号开始收到垃圾信就知道mail是给yahoo拍卖给卖了。 以上只是举例，大家也可以针对不同的注册信、抽奖等设定不同的分身， 再看看分身会不会被卖，就算被卖了，gmail也可以很快地透过筛选器快滤所以不用担心。 另外使用这些方法还有一些语法上的规定和限制， 以下参考自Gmail的电子信箱的分身功能：

To set up your device to work and sign up with RingPlus:
 
First, a Sprint* device, like an Android, (No i Phones!) that is not currently active is required. For example, if one canceled their subscription to another company or upgraded and now have a phone that has no service.
Then, go to https://my.ringplus.net/users/sign_in and click “Check My Device".
Enter the ESN number located on under the phone’s battery. It’s the long number called the Hex or Dec number (either one).
If this phone is ready to become a RingPlus phone and is not active at the moment under a contract or service, it will go to the next page.
After this, follow the steps to set up an account by entering an email and making up a password.
Then, go to “Add a New Device” in the account.
The ICID is only necessary with a Galaxy S4.
Choose the “BOYSD plan”.
A credit or debit card on file is necessary. This is required in case of exceeding the limit and/or making international calls
For more minutes or to make international calls or to use the in-call translator, go to” top up" and put money on the account. It’s a good Idea to always have a little bit of money available (around $10) in case more than 300 minutes is needed.
Now set device to factory reset (videos for most handsets are on YouTube).

The following steps are intending for the majority of HTC devices running Android software.
 
The first thing you will need to do is ensure that 3G/LTE (if you have an LTE device), voice, and text messaging are all working properly on your device. To do this, a Carrier Wipe, and Profile & PRL update are required. Please follow the steps below:
1. Carrier Wipe
Open the dialer
Dial # # 72786 # 
Enter your Master Subsidy Lock (MSL) 
Press the "MENU" key
Select "Reset"
The phone will then powercycle
2. System Update
Touch the “Application” icon
Touch “Settings”
Touch “System updates” (on some newer phones, this may be one level up from the Settings menu)
(Note: If it says "No updates available" you may not be connected to the internet. Make sure your WiFi is enabled and connected. You also may need to change your WiFi sleep policy, check it out here)
3. Profile Update
Touch the “Application” icon
Touch “Settings”
Touch “System updates” (on some newer phones, this may be one level up from the Settings menu)
Touch "Update Profile". The device will restart when complete.
4. PRL Update
Touch the “Application” icon
Touch “Settings”
Touch “System updates" (on some newer phones, this may be one level up from the Settings menu)
Touch “Update PRL”. Wait for the PRL update to complete, then touch “OK”. Your device may restart after the PRL update. If not, please restart your device.
Once your device restarts, 3G/LTE data, voice, and text messaging should be enabled.
